What the new legislation means to you?
New work health and safety (WHS) laws replaced the occupational health and safety (OHS) laws in NSW on 1 January 2012. Neighbourhood Centres will have 12 months to transition to the new legislation. Over that time we shall be providing LCSA members with access to resources which will enable you to make the transition smoothly and well.
For a full summary of the new legislation and how it may affect you visit the Workcover NSW website.
The document Understanding the Work Health and Safety Act – A Practical Guide is a two page summary, great for pinning up on the staff notice board and providing to your Board. There is also a range of training material on the website including webinars to explain various aspects of the new requirements.
For background information about the new WHS laws please use this link to Safe Work Australia Fact Sheet "Model Work Health and Safety Laws"
For members who are subscribers to the Policy Development Project we shall be updating the relevant policies to ensure they comply with the new legislation.
Please Note: LCSA members should check with their insurance providers to understand how the changes affect both volunteer and public liability insurance in their centres.
